Claims

Here is an overview of how a property claim is processed and what you can do to ensure you're compensated quickly and correctly. 

• A claim representative and a claim number will be assigned to your claim.
• Your claim representative will contact you to obtain detailed facts of the loss and advise you of the coverage applicable to your loss.
• We recommend you do the following to ensure you're claim is handled correctly.  
  1. If you have a theft claim, please notify the local authorities and prepare an inventory of the affected items. Include the brand name; model number; age; purchase price; place of purchase; and cost to replace of the items.  
  2. Photograph or videotape the damaged property.
  3. Preserve and protect your property to prevent further loss.
  4. Save damaged property until your claim representative has completed the inspection.
  5. Prepare a room-by-room list of damaged or destroyed property.
  6. Keep an accurate list of all additional living expenses such as meals and motel costs.
  7. Keep an accurate list of all the supplies you purchase to repair your home or personal property as well as the time you spend on emergency repairs.
  8. Leave a forwarding address or telephone number so your agent or claim representative can contact you.
• A claim representative may inspect your damages and prepare a repair estimate. Select and contact a contractor and discuss the estimate with the claim representative to ensure that all damages are identified. On smaller losses, your damages may be appraised over the phone or you will be requested to supply an estimate for repairs.
• Unigard has an affiliation with Service Master and Servpro to assist in claims involving water or smoke damage. Depending on coverage confirmation, Service Master can provide immediate assistance to help lessen further damage.
