QBE, the parent company of Unigard is committed to investing in the future. The QBE Regional Insurance Scholarship Program was developed to recognize academically talented dependents of its employees, Premier Partner agency employees and high school seniors in states where we have offices. These scholarships will aid students as they pursue undergraduate degrees.
Eligibility
To be eligible to apply for this scholarship, applicants must be:
- Employee Category
Dependent* children (age 24 or under) of full-time General Casualty, Unigard employees or QBE Regional employees located on a Unigard or General Casualty campus, who are high school seniors or graduates, who plan to enroll, or students who are already enrolled in a full-time undergraduate course of study at an accredited two- or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school.
- Premier Partner agents Category
Dependent* children (age 24 or under) of full-time Premier Partner agents/employees of Unigard or General Casualty who are high school seniors or graduates, who plan to enroll or students who are already enrolled, in a full-time undergraduate course of study at an accredited two- or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school.
- Community Category
High school seniors attending high schools in the states where QBE Regional Insurance has offices. (Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, Vermont, Utah, Washington and Wisconsin) Students must plan to enroll in a full-time undergraduate course of study at an accredited two- or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school. Only the first 300 applicants will be accepted.
Preference will be given to Unigard and General Casualty policyholders in the event of a tie.
* Dependent children are defined as natural and legally adopted children or stepchildren living in the employee’s household or primarily supported by the employee.
Awards
Up to thirty-two (32) awards of $1000 each will be granted in the following categories:
- Employee
Twelve (12) awards will be granted to children of QBE Regional Insurance employees (as long as there are qualified applicants). Awards are renewable up to three years or until a degree is earned, whichever occurs first, on the basis of satisfactory academic performance (2.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale) and continued parental employment with QBE Regional Insurance.
- Premier Partner agencies
Twelve (12) awards will be granted to children of Premier Partner Agency agents/employees of Unigard or General Casualty (as long as are qualified applicants). Awards are renewable up to three years or until a degree is earned, whichever occurs first, on the basis of satisfactory academic performance (2.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale) and continued agency Premier Partner status and parental employment at such agency.
- Community
Eight (8) awards will be granted to high school seniors attending high schools in states where QBE Regional Insurance has offices (as long as there are qualified applicants). More than one award may be granted to a high school. Awards are renewable up to three years or until a degree is earned, whichever occurs first, on the basis of satisfactory academic performance (2.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale). Only the first 300 applicants will be accepted.
Awards are for undergraduate study only.
Selection Criteria
Company personnel will not be involved in the selection of recipients. However, we have a contract with Scholarship Management Services, a program of Scholarship America, to administer the program and to select the recipients. The program will utilize standard Scholarship America recipient selection procedures including:
- Consideration of past academic performance and future potential,
- Leadership and participation in school and community activities,
- Work experience,
- Statement of career and educational aspirations and goals,
- Unusual personal or family circumstances, and
- An outside appraisal
Financial need will not be considered.
